Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Scathophagidae (UK): Trichopalpus or Scathophaga?

I photographed this grey scathophagid in my garden in West Sussex, UK on 10/04/2022.

I tried to key it out using Stuart Ball's 2014 key to UK Scathophagidae, and it seemed to key out as possibly Trichopalpus fraternus. However, I was advised by an expert that it was more likely a Scathophaga sp. I've looked through the British species of Scathophaga, but I can't seem to find one that has mostly grey legs and the same pattern of bristles on the legs.

Unfortunately, this was the only photograph I managed to get of it. Any help with the ID would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Dylan

Hi Dylan, my first idea is neither of them:) Have you considered Conisternum?
