I knew that I had this photo somewhere, but I only found it now. The photo is not very good but I hope it's good enough to reach an ID.

This is probably a
Merodon, but important characters for identification are the wing venation and a triangular appendix at the hind femora (see
http://www.natur-...W-274.html). It is a pity that the picture does not show these parts of the fly.

Given the small size and the orange fur and the early date, it will be M. aeneus.

Hi Rui,
though I might be mistaken again, it can also be M. equestris, an error I made before...
I'll have a look at my collection to see if I can find some differences besides the size of the specimen..
