Ruud is more likely to be sampling lots of Cretan Wine and eating too much food to get any flies for you Jorge..
jorgemotalmeida 23 April 2012 22:01:26
..collecting lots and lots of Mythicomyiidae, Acroceridae and Nemestrinidae for me, isn't it, Ruud? Thanks! I knew you would do it.

Just started to drizzle here. Some rain at last, but if it only had come a little later I would not become wet during my cycle tour home. Wink

According to wikipedia, the largest tipulids can get 64 mm long. I haven't found any primary source for this, but 64 is higher than 60.
jorgemotalmeida 16 March 2012 13:38:23
"The flies range from 9–60 mm in body length and the Neotropical species Gauromydas heros (Perty, 1833; Mydidae: Mydinae) is believed to be the largest known Diptera."
jorgemotalmeida 16 March 2012 13:37:36
Gauromydas heros is supposed to be the largest dipteran so far. Check tinyurl.com/85jvjze and here --> mydidae.tdvia.de.
