Hello,

I photographed this leaf mine on a Pimpinella saxifraga in Bazzano (AQ), Italy on November 15th 2019. Is it a Phytomyza mine? And is it possible to identify the species?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

Hi Emanuele, after some respite and exclusion of other possible candidates I'm quite sure it's Phytomyza adjuncta.

Greetings, Eric

How have you ruled out Phytomyza melana?

I thought I did: http://agromyzida...y/term/388.
I could not find an image of the mine but it should start in the centre of the leaf and be short.

The first image does show mines that are starting in the middle of the leaf. Not possible to determine without rearing adult material.

No problem. See the recording grade on the website;

http://agromyzidae.myspecies.info/taxonomy/term/323

Phytomyza adjuncta is a Grade 5, meaning rearing adults is essential.
