 Fannia female specimen - rondanii?

This female Fannia was caught in a malaise trap in an ordinary garden isolated in intensive arable farming in Eastern England during June 2018. In D’Assis Fonseca it seems to key comfortably to rondanii which I have not seen before but when I tried to check against a picture, I could only find males which do not have yellow basal wing shading and do have blackish halteres and calypters. My female has yellow halteres and pale calypters. Can males be so different? The features noted from the key are fronto-orbitals not reaching antennal insertion, no ventral setae on mid tibia, lower squama vestigial, triserial pre-sutural acrostichals. Additionally to the key, the parafrontals, parafacials and lower eye-rim have coarse pale greyish indumentum from some angles. The frons is very pale silver grey from some angles. I work with Fannia long time. Apart from several exclusions (rondanii is not) I do not record Fannia if I havn't male. P.S. rondanii is one of the smallest species of Fannia. Typical for wet localities. Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |
