Hello, I photographed this fly in Bazzano (AQ), Italy, on June 7th 2019. I think it is an Asilidae, but is it possible to tell the genus or species from these photos? Thank you in advance, Emanuele ESant attached the following image: [282.66Kb] Edited by ESant on 24-11-2020 18:45 |

It might well be.... Is that a bristle I see on the ventral side of the fore femur? If so, it could also be Neoepitriptus.

Thank you Reinoud. I tried to crop the image and there seems to be at least one bristle on the ventral side of the femur.

The pictures are pretty good but Machimus/Tolmerus/Neoepitriptus are rather difficult to ID because of small detaills.
