Hello, This picture : http://www.flored...pnum=33549 Click on the picture to view full size. has been taken on july 24th 2007, in Switzerland (near Bellwald Gefernseeregion) In a clearing in a mainly coniferous forest. Altitude 1400 meters. Sunny place, many flowers, lots of insects. Size about 12mm. Standing on dead wood. Sorry no other pics: the animal took off just after this one. I know this family is quite complex, but who knows: maybe this pic shows enough to put a name on it ? My investigations so far point to Andrenosoma, maybe A atra. Hello, it's a Laphriinae-species, this is sure. It is very difficult to distinguish Choerades and Andrenosoma in this dorsal view. To me there seems to be some reddish colour on the abdomen shining through the darkened wings. It may then be Choerades gilva or Andrenosoma albibarbe. But maybe I'm wrong with the reddish colour and the abdomen is completely dark, then it would be A. atra indeed. Too many ifs ... Greeting, Danny Wolff |

Thanks Danny for the global confirmation. When I look at the picture in full size, there is definitely a reddish brown colour to it. So I think you are right, it might be Choreades gilva or Andrenosoma albibarbe (although the second one seems less likely to me) I'll stay with choerades for the time being and mark it with a big "if". Thanks for the help !  If anyone can contribute further, I'll be even happier  |
