 Dead bat - parasitized by Diptera??

This dead bat pup was found in Sweden about a month ago. Is it possible that it was parasitized by some Diptera larva, like Calliphoridae? Or can something else have caused the hole in the body side? Johane attached the following image:  [244.35Kb] Johan Ennerfelt |

I don't know of any Diptera that are likely to cause that damage. I suspect that the bat had died, and was attacked by beetles. Alternatively it might have been shot while on a flight with its mother. Opening up the carcass should give you more information.

Thanks Tony! I got this picture sent to me, so I have not been able to dissect the bat. I can add some more information though, the bat pup (about 3-4 weeks old) had fallen down from a colony with Pipistrellus sp. It was still fresh and soft when found.
