almost all mycethophilidae have (two) spurs (strong bristles=setae) on tibiae - i'm not sure about this thumb rule... Wing venation fits more to the Mycetophilidae. Usually the cell m for Sciaridae has a belly shape - not in this case. And we can see two veins forked for M1+M2 and for CuA1 and CuA2 (see Overviews section for more details in wing venation), typical for Mycetophilidae. Caution: the location where really the veins forked!!! More near wing margin for Mycetophilidae, more longer for Sciaridae. Usually Sciaridae has bridge eye (for example Pnyxia spp. doesn't have and it is a sciarid)... this is not the case. dO YOU A frontal view for this fly? Just to confirm if there is no eye bridge. |

hmm... Sciaridae can have spurs on tibiae as well. The best is to see the presence/absent of eye bridge. And the wing venation. Usually sciarids has 16-segmented antennae.  |
