One of the Chironominae - possibly Chironomus itself. I wouldn't call them good to eat - though I've eaten quite a few by accident.  In Uganda, Chaoboridae (and to a lesser extent Chironomidae) occur in such huge swarms that when the bodies are washed up at the margins of lakes, they are gathered and made into "Kungu cake" - an important source of protein at certain times of the year. great, Tony! In last week, in an institution, I heard that in Mexico they make a kind of drink where they put alive larvae! They told that tastes juicy and spicy!!! I don?t recall how it calls, though. Anyone knows? |
