Hello,

this 7-8 mm male rested under a tree in our garden yesterday (northwest Germany). Platycheirus? Melanostoma? Or Melangyna?

I'd say Platycheirus albimanus.

For what it is worth, I would agree on Platycheirus albimanus (male).

Thanks a lot, Sundew and Karsten! I had that species in my mind, but the visible spots seemed more yellowish than greyish to me. But that may be a light effect. Nevertheless it is very early this year. I did not find P. albimanus before April until now.
Best regards,
Jürgen

Actually, the spots are often yellowish in the males, https://www.flickr.com/photos/63075200@N07/albums/72157629990848273/
