On the attached photo there is a small white formation just a few milimeters across. It has tiny holes in it. I asked several biology friends but no one knew what it could be. Some of them, including me, think that it might be ova deposit of some insect species with already hatched larvae leaving the remaining tiny holes. But we have absolutely no clue of which species it could be. Could it be some Diptera species? Or does anyone have any hint which other group of instects could lay such an ova deposit. Actually - is it ova deposit? It was present on the bark of Abies alba, Quercus sp. and Fagus sylvatica. And rather on the south-west orientated part od the trunks - but in the forest anyway. Locality: eastern part of the Czech republic. Thank you in advance for any identification help.
