Hoi Gordo, The first thing I can tell you is that it is a member of the family Sciomyzidae! These are the famous snail attacking flies, who deposit their eggs on all kinds of snails! Ouch, Gerard, The family is wrong! Though you are excused, because until recently it was in Sciomyzidae. This is a species of Pelidnoptera, probably P. nigripennis, which is now placed in the family Phaeomyiidae. The completely darkened wings are a good character. Another 'ouch'.
