After much fussing, I think I have this one keyed out to Thricops using the Manual of the Nearctic Diptera. However, I'm a novice at this and also don't have access to either Savage's 2003 revision of the genus or Malloch's 1921 paper on "Trichopticus" so I'd really appreciate some help with the ID. Thanks in advance! Steve body ~7mm found just off the Potomac River in Maryland; fairly open forest nearby.

I think I misinterpreted couplet 18: "Hind coxa with a row of setae near Iower margin of posterior surface" (leading to Thricops) vs. "Hind coxa without setae on posterior surface" (leading to Phaonia) I'll send you my email address Edited by Steve Scholnick on 20-04-2019 00:45 |
