Hi,

I used the key in Hull, F. M. 1942. The Genus Ferdinandea Rondani to identify a specimen we collected at Abbott's Lagoon, Point Reyes National Seashore, California, June 3, 2002. Everything agreed with the key's criterea except it has 2 notopleural bristles on each side instead of 4. Hull described croesus var. midas based on one specimen from Arizona that had 2 np bristles on one side and 3 on the other. His specimen also had wholly yellow femur, while ours has some brown in the basal half. Our specimen also is very similar to the images shown at www.barcodinglife.org/views/taxbrowser.php?taxid=48295 for croesus. However the images are not detailed enough for a convincing study .

Should I be concerned about the notopleural bristle count???

Thanks,

Bill Lenarz
