Hello!

This one visited the UV light yesterday night (Ostwestfalen/Germany). Length about 4 mm. Is it Lonchaeidae? Thanks!

Hi Juergen

you are quite correct, this is a classic female Lonchaea spp., broad shining thorax with few strong setae, all black apart from yellow basal tarsomeres, antennal flagellomere 2.5 x long as deep, females have this very braod frons. Unfortunately they are difficult to ID to species level based on photographs alone ........ best wishes ... Iain

Many thanks! I've had so many small black flies here in the last days, I'm quite happy that I put this one in the correct family... Wink
Best regards,
Jürgen
