On August 23 (Bekasovo-2 station) I found another fly which might be the same one despite the fact it's bigger (6 to 6.5 mm).

The specimens were examined by Dr. A. Shatalkin and identified as Chamaepsila martineki (Carles-Tolr?, 1993), a pretty rare species in Europe and apparently the first record for Russia. |

Fauna europaea lists 29 species in this genus. Is this species identifiable from what can be seen in these pictures or must genitalia be examined? What was the habitat? |

Thanks Viktor and Susan  - most important features are visible (no. of setae on scutum, pvt/dc present or absent, colour of 3rd antennal segment) but examining genitalia seems to be essential for exact ID in most cases (by the way, these were initially identified as Ch. bicolor). |
