I came across this species as it came flying to our house and started to walk around outside our basement. It was 14mm (0,55in) long. Unfortunately I only had my mobile camera, but when you study it from different angles you may see some details in structures and colours, like i.e the stripes on its thorax. This is a fly that mimics a wasp - it is a hoverfly, Xylota segnis (Syrphidae)
