Hi

A friend of mine: Anthony Gould took this photo on 15th August 2007 in Arizona. This is, I think, a Poecilognathus sp. It was feeding on desert marigold. Perhaps P. unimaculatus (but we must see dorsal view to be sure).

This photo was granted by him. I think this is the best photo available on the net with this detail.

This beautiful bombyliid is confirmed as a female of Poecilognathus unimaculatus.

WOW
I now have a new desktop background on my computer - I am sure I am not the only one, I hope your friend Anthony does not mind?

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
