Yellow antennae and not modified front legs make it Melanostoma, but males of M. mellinum and M. scalare are difficult to separate. The lenght : width ratio of abdominal segments 2 and 3 is decisive but not visible in this lateral shot. http://www.nature...d-hoverfly points to the largely yellow antennae in M. scalare, but I cannot estimate the reliability of this character...
