Not Xylota (there are no spines on the lower side of the hind femora), this is a female of Brachypalpoides lentus. |

Dear Claudia. I have to say that this time I don't believe you. Brachypalpoides lentus is very rare in Finland. It is founded few times only in Ahvenanmaa (archipelago between Finland and Sweden) and last time 2002. It's legs should be also black. Rami |

You are right - the leg colour is wrong  So a Xylota indeed, but one with hardly visible spines on the hind femora... I just learn that you have 11 Xylota species in Finland, so one should be the right choice. My Tyrolean X. ignava (http://www.dipter...pid=171533) and the unknown to me X. tarda (http://insecta.pr.../48294.jpg) have a rather similar appearance but seem to have a golden shimmer of short hairs on the thorax that I miss here. So I do not dare a guess... |

The colour of hind tibia indicates Xylota ignava.

Fore and mid tibiae entirely pale direct toward X. ignava female
