Yesterday it was really enjoying his rest on a tree trunk in Amsterdam. Any idea what species?

Muscina sp. I have M. stabulans and M. levida in my collection: M. levida is darker and not so strongly striped; M. stabulans is very close in colour, but has a narrow dark frontal vitta. So it is either angustifrons, prolapsa or pascuorum.

On the topic of Muscidae, I've spent the last evenings sorting through arctic Spilogona I collected last July from northernmost Finland. They are ... not easily identified. But with the help of male genitalia one can make some sense, and the effort is well rewarded: Spilogona tornensis, S. krogerusi, S. norvegica, and of course more normal species like S. brunneisquama, contractifrons, depressiuscula, litorea and pacifica. Some of those are new for Finland and I need to find someone who can confirm the identification - Adrian Pont perhaps?

Thanks. I will throw a key at it and see what happens. Wink

As for confirmation, I guess Adrian is the person to ask. I know he has been working on Scandinavian Muscidae in the past.

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
