I saw this fly in Amstelveen, Holland. It's feeding on Wild Carrot, in a herbaceous grass land. I was thinking about a Tachinid in view of the bristles. But may be that is entirely of the mark. Who can help IDing this fly? Size about 8 mm.

Yes, a tachinid - no anthomyiid has a bend in the M vein like that. Can't help you any further though.

Tachinid for sure - perhaps Solieria sp.? (pale brown with 2 pairs of scutellar bristles) |

Is the genus ID solid, or are there alternatives that cannot be ruled out? Can alternatives be ruled out on the basis of a picture? If so, what should be visible?

Hard for me to say really. In England there wouldn't be many alternatives but I'm not so sure in Europe - and I'd have to try to key the insect through to check if it really is Solieria. But to do that I'd like to see the head/face better and the bristles on the body & legs. ![]() |

It's indeed Solieria pacifica. Interesting find, Cor. Mostly restricted to the larger rivers and Zuid-Limburg, in the Netherlands. Theo |
