Hi everyone,

Here is a Chrysotoxum i met last year in massif central, in France, 1300m hight.
Unfortunately i didn't catch it. And i don't feel confortable identifying this genus on picture.
What do you think?

Provided that the 3rd antenna segment is shorter than segment 1+2 (difficult to estimate here) and the femora 1 and 2 have a black basis, it is the spring species Ch. vernale. Completely yellow femora would make it Ch. festivum. The latter can be found till September, which would match better the time of your observation. There is a dark spot on femur 1 in pic 1, however... A Syrphid expert should possibly see more!
Regards, Sundew

I am not an expert but I would have said C. festivum too.

Oups, forgot this thread! Shock

Thanks for your opinion. Unfortunately I have no better picture of femora, but festival looks like a good idea to me too.
