I have used Merritt and Cummins and the Manual of Nearctic Diptera, but no go. It looks Tipulidae like, however, the teeth move on a vertical plane. Any help with identifications would be great or even a push in the right direction. When I keyed it out it came out to Dolichopodidae. Thanks

Never seen this one before, but it looks more like an Empididae of unknown genus. Were is it from (country, city?).
And welcome to The forum pete

Atylotus, this specimen is from Medina County, Texas USA. From a creek. Collected with a Bou-Rouch pump into the stream bed. It just looks so different from any Empididae we have here. I see a lot of Hemerodromia around here. Thanks for reply and glad to be on the site.

Did you check the manual of nearctic Diptera? If not I can send you an excerpt on Empididae. Then send me an e-mail (ton.vanhaaren{at}grontmij.nl).
