The bigger Tipula obscuriventris larvae from the last video has been cut and opened to sample a piece of skin and verify the setae position and distribution on the abdominal segments And inside of the body there were 7 living larvae hung to the tracheal trunks at the level of segments VII, VIII These larvae have been observed anf we can see some pictures about a few features of its We suppose that they could be Tachinids larvae (Siphona ?) asTachinids are well-known to have this habit of endoparasiting Tipulids Here are the pictures. I opened a new Tipula obscuriventris larva standing in the same sample This larvae was shorter (about 40 mm length) and I found another Diptera lava attached to tracheal trunks of Tipulida at the level of Abdomen Semgent II This larvae seemed to me to be wrapped by some organic "bag" well ornamented by tracheas  the wrapping bag is a little bit yellow colored with a chitinous black point where the Tachinid (?) larva sticks to the tracheal trunk of Tipula On the transparent segments of the endoparasitoid can be seen rows of dark spicules This larvae seemed to me to be older than the others larvae founded in the first observation Same cephalic skeleton and a little piece of dark material found in each of all those larvae: is it the tool used to puncture the Tipula trachea ? merci pour l'attention the Tipula larvae opened and the (Tachinid) endoparasit visible   The larva parasitoid is wrapped in a organic cuticule  aspect of the spicules raws on the abdominal segments    POsterior stigmata  |
