St Marc's fly (Bibionidae): Dilophus sp. The most common in your region at that time is the fever fly, D. febrilis. Though the picture is very nice, the essential details for species identification are not visible.

Many thanks Paul, I know the angle is not good for showing wing detail. There are a few other images on my www link which are only tentative IDs so any help with these also very useful. Best wishes Tristan |
