Hi, Syrphidists, is Melanostoma scalare in both cases correct? Thanks for very-/falsifying. Greetings, Lennart 2014-09-18, 10 a.m., Germany, Schleswig-Holstein, Mohrkirch, wild meadow Lennart Bendixen attached the following image: [170.41Kb] Edited by Lennart Bendixen on 24-01-2015 19:01 |

Hello Lennart, Seeing the female in the above picture I'd say M. mellinum on account of the shiny face. That same specimen is btw a victim of the fungus Entomophthera. Greetings, Ectemnius |

Hi Ectemnius, thanks for your correction - seems very plausible. Aha, a fungus - I always wondered why those flies look so very strange! Thanks for clearing this up! Greetings, Lennart |
