Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if this larva i first believed to be a Stratiomys isn't a O ornata after all. What do you think?

I can't understand why i found it in the middle of the beach, moving as fast as it could. I guess it is accidental?

It looks more like Stratiomys longicornis to me. You may notice that the dorsal part has numerous small white spots, which are in fact unpigmented spots at the base of the hairs. This is most typical for S. longicornis/singularior. But as the anal segment is relatively short in comparison to singularior, this must be longicornis. See http://www.dipter...d_id=33074
