Hallo together,

I am here for first time because usually I am interested mostly in beetles. But I was lucky to take a picture which I think is not bad. So I became interested in finding out the name of the fly, and I searched the gallery of the page.
I think I took a picture of Chaetorellia, but it would be fine, if someone could afirm that and tell me about the species, if that is possible from the phote.
I took the photo May 16th this year in my garden in Southern Germany. 700 m over sealevel, in a subburb with houses all with gardens round the houses, on the leaf of a Centaurea sp. courtshipping. (I also got three photos from mating). Unfortunately I didn't much care about the size, but I think it was a little bit larger then famous Drosophila.

I hope the attachment of the picture will work.

Thanks a lot for your help
Siga.

The attechment didn't work, it said wrong size or wrong filetype, but it was less than 195Kb and it was .jpg

Second try, if it doesn't work this time too, perhaps you can tell me why.

Thanks, Siga

Hallo Jorge

Thanks so far. But it would be fine to find out thne species. So I kept on looking around in the many many informattion on this page, which I just start to recognize, I found this:

In this group it can be recognised as Chaetorellia by the presence of presutural dorsal setae and as C. jaceae because the anterior supra-alar setae are not placed on black spots.

But finding seta in the Glossary was only small help, because I didn't find presutural and supra-alar. So I cannot decide if that description matches the insect, I photographed

I stay beeing optimistic Wink

Hi,

This one has no presutural dorsocentral bristles.... and is therefore no Chaetorellia, but rather a Chaetostomella, and the species is C. cylindrica.

Hi John, thanks a lot. SmileSmile

I tried at once to find Chaetostomella cylindrica in the Gallery, in vain.

So, if it is wanted, I will give with pleasure my allowance to put the photo I sent in the gallery.

As you see, I know that page only from yesterday and of course I don't know the customs and proceedings. Just tell me what I have to do.

And perhaps I will learn some day, what presutural means Wink
