Hello, sorry, I have only this picture, taken from a distance. I first thought it was Syrphus sp. (flying also yesterday), but the abdomen markings make me think of Epistrophe grossulariae (?). Size about 8 mm, near forest (northwest Germany). Moin Jürgen, it is with no doubt a female of Syrphus. In the field my predetermination would be torvus based on the broad black bands. In Northern Germany torvus was the most frequent Syrphus flying this April. Mid of April is a little bit early for Epistrophe grossulariae. Regards Piet Edited by Fred Fly on 28-04-2014 08:27 |

I also observed in former years, that torvus (IDed by an expert from detailed photos of the eyes) was numerous here in spring. Hi, 4 days ago I found this female with a similar colouration. But this seems to be clearly S. ribesii (all yellow legs). But this female is belonging to the genus Epistrophe. |
