This little tachinid female seems to me as Gymnosoma sp., but the size is really shorter than usual (4-5 mm, as Cistogaster sp.)! More I try to find, grater it's difficult Found on parsley flowers, near Paris (France) in July 2006. Cecile attached the following image: [59.59Kb] |

Gymnosoma nitens perhaps? That's the really small species here and the specimen I have has a slightly stripey abdomen. |

It would be new to me too - if I could find one! Here they are rare and quite restricted to the east, around London. |

Looks like Gymnosoma nitens. Which is, in my mind, so different from the other ones that I personally prefer the name Stylogymnomyia nitens. Theo |
