Hello experts in the diptera.info forum,

I observed this large Asilidae (?) on Menorca, having caught a Polistes dominula. Is family Asilidae correct? Can the genus be determined from my photos?

Observation details: Spain, Menorac/Balearic Islands, macchia/dunes close to the south cost, 24.08.2013.

Best regards
Joerg

Yes! Pogonosoma maroccanum. Did you collect it?

The prey is a Vespidae wasp. Looks like Polistes.

No, I just took the photos.

Thank you Jorge. I am impressed: my first question to this forum, and a reply before I even could load up the second image...

Best regards
Joerg
