Hello! This Bibionid from our house wall was only half as big as the Bibio marci, which seemed to have freshly emerged from our garden :-): http://www.foto-u...arci_W.jpg Is it B. pomonae? Or perhaps lanigerus? Thanks! HI Juergen, difficult to tell, but definitely not pomonae. Which is a summer species, by the way. It seems to be the female of either lanigerus or an allied species (johannis, varipes) Theo Zeegers |

B. johannis appeared here already two weeks or so ago (usually the first Bibio), but I never saw one with such red legs (more yellow/lightbrown). Well, males preceed the females (on the average, of course), so beware of that ! Theo |

Hello, Theo! Zeegers wrote: Well, males preceed the females (on the average, of course), so beware of that ! Yes, the early ones here were all males. But what I meant was, that I never saw a female B. johannis with such red colouration of the legs. Mostly they were more yellow like on this pic from May 2005: Best regards, Jürgen -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Juergen Peters Borgholzhausen, Germany WWW: http://insektenfo... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= |
