Hi, This Tephritidae (??) visited my house yesterday. Can anyone ID this fly? Location: Alicante (SPAIN) Size: < 10 mm Date: 17-april-07 Thanks in advance And sorry for the bad quality pictures |

Hi This magnificent fly is Aciura coryli. The larvae live in flowers of Phlomis and Ballota, quite unusual for Tephritids. John |

Indeed it's the same, and as you can see it is ovipositing, so if anyone can give an ID on the plant... John |

John The plant is Rosmarinus sp (Labiatae, like Phlomis an Ballota ) Surprise !! The flies are emerging from Salvia officinalis (Labiatae ), inside my house ! Ah! thanks for the plant ID's! The species is quite rare as an adult, though it seems to cocur in the entire mediterrannean region, but there are not that many rearing records! Is it possible to recieve one of your fotographs as a piece of evidence? preferably this last one, you can send it to smitj@naturalis.nl.
