On a pile of kelp on a beach in California, USA, August 18, 2013. I think this is Tethinidae (aka Canacidae).

Tethinidae have now been incorporated in Canacidae, and it seems to be one of that family.

Possibly Tethina milichioides, a widespread West Coast species. |
