Yes, Pollenia are called 'cluster flies' because they hibernate in large groups in cold, dry places to survive the winter. This means that any flying now are likely to be very old, tatty and rubbed, like yours, so they lack the classic curly, golden hair on the thorax

Yes Chris, I've always many in the garden after the winter. This year less than other years. I think because the long cold winter. But with this small pollenia without golden hairs I wasn't sure.
