Taken today on a conifer- pretty certain it's just laid the eggs at the base of the bud it's standing on. Body length 2.1mm- South Coast UK. Thanks Brian V. Edited by LordV on 08-03-2007 20:55 |

This could well be Janetiella siskiyou, a North American gall midge that has spread to Europe wherever its hostplant, Chamaecyparis lawsoniana is planted. The pink larvae feed on developing seeds within the galled cone.
