This Asilidae I photographed at the same place I did the photo #1. I will thank any help to identify it. Efferia sp., female; long, sword-like ovipositor is typical for females of this genus. Some systematists (one a Brazilian, Nelson Papavero) have proposed that the various species groups in the large genus Efferia be raised to distinct genera This can cause problems (some spp. can't even be placed properly in their "new" genera), and I much prefer a single, unified genus "Efferia". |
