Hi,

Going through my photos of Tachina fera, this one stood out as different, less black on abdoman, legs paler, face less yellow. Is this still Tachina fera or something else ? Photo taken in Surrey Southern England 30th July 2006.

It certainly should be T.fera because the only species that you could easily confuse it with in that part of the world would be Nowikia ferox and N.ferox has got black legs and antennae and the black and orange on the abdomen shows more contrast - the black is very black. Smile

Thanks Chris,

Thats what I thought when I looked at the photo's by themselves but it just stands out when viewed alongside others of T.fera.

Thanks again for the confirmation.

But I agree with Chas, it looks very odd.

Thanks Theo and Chris,

Well, given the locality, I'm quite confident it is an aberrant Tachina fera. What I meant to stress was: it is aberrant.
