In an exhibition of insects in a museum, it can be collected in any continent of Earth. I first thought that it was a Mydas sp. but looking closer I saw that is a robberfly. Compare size with a Volucella bombylans in the corner. Edited by Isidro on 05-07-2012 18:51 |

Proagonistes sp., a large Laphriine asilid from East Africa or Madagascar (Andrenosomatini - related to Andrenosoma, Pogonosoma, etc.). |

Call it 'probably' Proagonistes praeceps (Walker), from S. Africa & Zimbabwe. It looks just like this sp. -- but the ID is still a guess, since the locality of the specimen is unknown. |
