Hi. Here I give two pictures of two different larvae and I would like to be helped in their identification. Both of them have been captured in cereal crops last summer (2006) in the region of Central European Russia. Their identification is needed for our entomological research.
I suppose the first larva is a cotton worm (Helicoverpa arnigera) and I ask for someone to confirm it or not. The second larva is absolutely unknown for me. Its sudden mass occurrence and large aggregations on the winter wheat ears amazed me and my workmate. For my supposition these larvae might belong to a first instar of some beetle, for instance some Cantharidae, maybe. I don't know exactly. Maybe someone could bring any ideas what it might be.
The larvae are very small and are poorly seen on the picture. So, the picture should be saved on the hard drive and viewed using any picture browser at large scale.
Thanks advance and good luck in id.

I can no longer send private messages (and maybe not receive?), even though my inbox and outbox are not yet full. I write, click "send" and they disappear and never show up in the outbox.
