Hi all, On the lighter side I should probably let you know that I had this figured for a Scaeva selenitica (just so you know the kind of brains your talking to ), but the folks that answered to this Thread on insektenfotos.de kindly put me in the direction of Eupeodes with some uncertain probability of E. luniger or E. corollae ... Any chances of narrowing it down to the species level? Thanks in advance for any answer! Cheers, Arp P.S. Ohw, rats - forgot this: Foto taken 2006-11-10, Hoofddorp, Netherlands - from memory I would estimate the animal at 10-12mm Arp attached the following image: [97.75Kb] Edited by Arp on 08-12-2006 01:09 |

This looks like E. luniger, bec. in corollae the yellow spots on the tergites reach the margin. Also the fork-shaped mark in the frons points to luniger. |

Eupeodes corollae is hardly ever seen later than mid September in The Netherlands. Nor seen in early spring. This also points to Eu. luniger. |

Hello and thanks to all, Sorry, for the somewhat late reaction - I've been abroad for a week. So, luniger it is ... probably ... thanks Is it certain enough to name the beast as such, or should I be prudent and mix in a "cf." ?? Thanks again for the help! Cheers, Arp |
