 Collected end of August 2011 in Portugal in the vicinity of Porto. I think this may be Leptogaster cylindrica, am i right?

According to Fauna Europaea however the genus Leptogaster is not known from Portugal, which makes me hesitant.

 I think it is another species because of the shape of the hind tibia. Can you place pictures of wings, thorax and genitalia?

Thanks for watching. I have added pictures of wing and legs, hope it is sufficient. Clear picture of the genitals are a bit more difficult to produce. See what i can do in the evening.

 Shape of genital is different from cylindrica as is shape of hind tibia. In key of EO Engel step 1. asks pterostigma..... To me it looks as if this wing has a pterostigma but i have no experience with exotic Leptogasters.Smile but if it is really a stigma then.....I am not at home at this moment so it might take some time before i react next time.

 Although i still think that the hind tibia are strangly shaped, it probably is L. cf cylindrica hispanica..... It seems that there is little known about the Asilidae in Portugal. I think we might assume that they will have a lot in common with Spain.

Thats exactly the problem, the lack of available literature. I just have some literature of the Dutch species, which is of course absolutely insufficient. Unfortunately i also do not have the key by Engel you are referring to.

And i thought this would be the easy one, because i have some other species from that region as well Wink

I appriciate the effort you have put in it untill now.

You are right in your presumption. Key by Engel mentions species that are no longer accepted according to Fauna Europaea. My key became useless despite your pictures. I just don't know... : (

 Addendum:Smile Used key by Seguy now and. The bristles on the back of the head seem black according to key by Seguy i end up with L. hispanica. This is however no longer a valid species. Wing venation supports L. cylindrica. Maybe if we put one and one together....Smile Remains a cf i'm afraid. Until i find a recent key..

FYI, I have checked it and the bristles on the back of the head are black.
