Hi all. I've been going through the "Unidentified Syrphidae" section in Wikimedia Commons having fun trying to identify the photos. I found one photo of a rather stunning looking Syrphid from India. The license allows me to make a copy and post it here I think. Can anyone identify this beautiful fly? The nearest I get with my limited knowledge is Tropidia based on the projection on the hind femur. Edited by Sandy on 31-12-2011 06:38 |

All right! I can't seem to upload the photo despite it meeting the requirements of name and size. Here's a link to the photo page instead. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Beetle_01.JPG |

Dziekuje Lukasz! :-) That looks a pretty close match. I looked for an Eristalini sinuated R4+5 vein in the original without success. Menguals photos on Lifedesks show it really well and it's now more obvious on the other photo. I suppose it's safest to call it Phytomia sp. or Phytomia (Dolichomerus) sp. for now. Much obliged, Sandy |
