Hi all.
Recently, a colleague brought me some larvae in very poor condition, forming a cone on the ground like those of Myrmeleontidae.
Have you any idea of what family can be? They come from Barcelona (Spain).

Hello Jorge
welcome to the forum.

I guess you mean sandpits as those in Myrmeleontidae instead of cones on the ground. In the latter case it appears to me as small hills of sand instead of holes/pits. Dou you have some photographs of the larvae? or a link?

As far as I am aware, the only Diptera-larvae making such sandpits are Vermileonidae.

Hi atylotus and Menno.
I attached a image of the larvae. I have only the description of the person who brought the material. He mentioned that the larvae formed a sort of hole in the ground.

See the FAQ. Main requirements: less than 200 kb, no spaces in file name, do not preview with the attachment.

Vermileonidae, but from the photos I am not able to tell you whether this is Vermileo or Lampromyia.
