From midwest Sweden 2006-07-05. I'm not sure wether this "ball" belongs to the spider or not ... Could this be a Araniella sp? The leaf is probably Syringa vulgaris.

Hello!

I have no distribution maps for Sweden, but here in Germany there are 6 Araniella species, and 5 of them cannot be separated by a photo. A. cucurbitina is the most abundant, but A. opistographa is not much less. So it would bei safest to call this spider Araniella cf. cucurbitina.
Best regards,
Jürgen

The same species as here in Germany Smile. Only A. displicata can definitely be determined after a photo (also is mainly restricted to coniferous trees (Pinus) in sandy habitats).
Best regards,
Jürgen
