Hi, Found this pretty baby in a small stream near Ootmarsum (close to German border) about 10 C. App 12 mm. By looking at it I'd say Velia currens, but www.nederlandsesoorten.nl says it doesn't occur in The Netherlands. So is it a first record or maybe another species after all? How do you distinguish it from Velia saulii and Velia caprai? |

If you want to try separate the Velia species (and you know a bit of german ) you can have a look at Bestimmungsschl?ssel der GERROMORPHA ?sterreichs (PDF). |

Hi Andr?, we took a look on your Velia. There are two possible species indeed: Velia caprai and Velia saulii. You have to collect these species and you have to study the male genitalia for are shure id. If you repeat your observation, we would be glad to receive some photos for the bug gallery. Best regards Frank
