Hello to all! Can anyone tell me, which Parhelophilus this is? Size not more than 1cm. And how can I fix the sex in this genus? The guys don't seem to be holoptic there, as in most of the other syrphid genera... 6.8.2011, Czech Republic, near Prachatice Rupert Huber attached the following image: [130.21Kb] Best greetings Rupert |

Not Parhelophilus, Helophilus pendulus (female).

Thanks a lot, Stephane! I'm surprised. So it's by far the darkest and smallest one of this kind that I've ever seen...

Parhelophilus have yellow antennae and no lustrous facial stripe.
