Is this Dasysyrphus friuliensis? It has been suggested to me and I tend to agree. D. venustus is another alternative(?), but to me the spots looks to narrow in the middle. If that is significant. July 4. Dombĺs, Oppland, Norway. Inland, 750 metres above sea level. 62 deg N Don Martin attached the following image: [98.89Kb] Edited by Don Martin on 05-07-2011 22:46 |

This could also be D. postclaviger. To cite the Syrph the Net species account: "D.postclaviger can be separated from the closely similar species D.friuliensis (van der Goot) and D.hilaris (Zetterstedt), using the keys provided by Haarto and Kerppola (2007) and Bartsch et al (2009). D.postclaviger is not included in the keys provided by van Veen (2004), where is would run down to D.friuliensis. The adult male is illustrated in colour by Bartsch et al (2009). I hope you collected them. Greetings, André |

Thanks André Unfortunately I did not collect any of them. Maybe I have to stop by the site again, although D. postclaviger is not found in Norway (yet ) Regards John |
